This is especially the case with heavy-duty trucks like the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD.

Some folks may still consider heavy-duty trucks commercial vehicles, but these people probably haven’t been paying attention. With the Denali trim, GMC has shown that trucks can have all the luxury features you want without sacrificing performance, ruggedness, and trailering capability. With the 2022 Sierra 2500HD, there are so many incredible features that it is almost impossible to list all of them. There are two great powertrain combinations to choose from with an engine and transmission paired to provide exceptional performance. There is the ability to tow some of the largest trailers and heaviest cargo payload while looking great doing it. That’s because few heavy-duty trucks capture the imagination quite like a GMC Sierra 2500HD, from its bold grille to its powerful frame.

GMC also understands that many people want a heavy-duty truck for its ability to carry you up and over the toughest trails out there. Performance Options

GMC gives you a choice of two great engines on most models of the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD. The base engine is a 6.6-liter V8 gas engine. This can produce up to 401 horsepower and 464 lb-ft of torque. The optional engine is a 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8, available on all models of the Sierra 2500HD except the PRO trim level. This engine has an engine block heater to help with starting up on cold mornings and an exhaust brake for improved performance. It also has an engine after run feature to keep things nice and cool when it’s revved up. This Turbo-Diesel is really powerful, producing 445 horsepower and 910 lb-ft of torque.

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD pairs its engines with specific transmissions designed to provide optimal performance. The base 6.6-liter V8 gas engine is equipped with a 6-speed heavy-duty, electronically controlled automatic transmission. This features a Tow/Haul mode with auto-grade braking to reduce wear and tear on your brakes when you are towing or driving your Sierra 2500HD downhill. The available 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8 comes paired with an Allison 10-speed automatic transmission. It is also electronically controlled with Tow/Haul mode and auto-grade braking.

A Smoother Driving Experience Than You May Expect

GMC gives you the choice of rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive on your 2022 Sierra 2500HD. The rear-wheel drive models will boost conventional trailering, while four-wheel drive gives you greater traction. Four-wheel drive Sierra 2500HD models come equipped with an electronic shift two-speed transfer case with push button controls. This transfers engine horsepower to each wheel separately so that you can get equal spin without slippage. In addition, it will automatically switch between 4X4 and 2X4 depending on road and driving conditions. All models feature an Eaton Locker automatic locking rear differential, which improves traction by immediately locking to make sure the rear wheels spin in unison if the system senses any difference in wheel speeds.

The recirculating ball steering will help keep your Sierra 2500HD on the straight and narrow without too much effort. This allows this heavy-duty truck to handle more like a lighter vehicle. The truck’s four-wheel antilock disc brakes feature DuraLife brake rotors that are hardened to provide longer life and smoother braking with less vibration.

  • Capability

A black 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD is shown towing a trailer.

A major reason to buy a heavy-duty truck like the 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD is the ability to tow and carry heavy things with your truck. The engineers at GMC understand this, which is why the 2022 Sierra 2500HD has been designed to provide you with the capability you need when you need to tow and haul.

The Reason You Want a 2500HD: Towing and Payload

The 2022 Sierra 2500HD has an amazing towing capability, regardless of whether you choose the standard 6.6-liter V8 gas engine or the available 6.6-liter Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8. When equipped with the gas engine, the Sierra 2500HD can tow up to 17,370 pounds. The diesel engine tops this with up to 18,510 pounds of towing capability. Of course, your choice of drivetrain and cab configuration can affect the towing capacity, as well as equipping your truck with such additional equipment as a gooseneck hitch or a fifth wheel. Whichever one you choose, your Sierra 2500HD will serve you well whether you plan on towing a backhoe for work or a boat for vacation.

The 2022 GMC Sierra 2500HD features the largest payload capacity of any heavy-duty truck in its class. There are two bed types to choose from. The standard bed will give you 69.6 cubic feet of cargo space, while the long bed has an astounding 83.5 cubic feet of space. Unlike with towing, choosing a standard 6.6-liter V8 gas engine will actually allow you to carry more payload with your Sierra 2500HD than the available Duramax Turbo-Diesel V8. The Sierra 2500HD with the gas engine can carry up to 3,979 pounds of cargo, while the model with the Turbo-Diesel has a maximum payload capacity of 3,715 pounds. As with towing, your choice of cab configuration and drivetrain can affect the amount of cargo your Sierra 2500HD truck can carry.
