The updated 2020 GMC Acadia is one of the finest midsize SUVs on the road, with everything we’ve come to expect from the Acadia and some great new additions. Among available GMC SUVs, the Acadia has been a favorite of many of us here at Colonial Motor Mart for a long time. But with the refreshed exterior, new features throughout the inside, and an exciting new trim available, the 2020 model has taken things further than ever before. We thought it would be fun to take an in-depth look at the 2020 GMC Acadia to see everything it has to offer because once you start digging into this beauty, it’s hard to stop!

Updated Exterior

Although the 2020 GMC Acadia is not a new generation for what is one of the most popular models among GMC SUVs, it has received a mid-cycle refresh. Part of this impressive update is the redesigned exterior, which immediately demands attention with a bold and powerful-looking front grille. It has a strong, athletic design that makes an immediate impression the moment you see it and is sure to draw looks from others while you’re on the road.

This front grille is particularly pronounced on the new AT4 and the Denali trims (we’ll look at them more later on), but the exterior of every trim looks fantastic. No matter which model you’re interested in, you’ll see that the updated 2020 GMC Acadia is as visually impressive as it is dominant on the road.

Amazing Power and Performance

A red 2020 GMC Acadia, which is popular among GMC SUVs, is driving past grey and brown condos.

Three different engines are offered on the 2020 GMC Acadia, so you can get exactly the level of power you need. Though there are some trim restrictions on these, you’re still free to choose between two different options on a couple of the trims offered by GMC. As a midsize GMC SUV, we would expect at least two engines, but the offerings on the 2020 model really showcase what the new approach to the Acadia is all about: power.

The standard engine is a 2.5L 4-cylinder beauty that offers up to 193 hp and 188 lb-ft of torque with stop/start technology for boosted fuel economy. There is also an available 2.0L Turbo 4-cylinder engine for the 2020 GMC Acadia, which provides up to 230 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque for boosted performance. Finally, there is a 3.6L V6 engine available, which delivers up to 310 hp and 271 lb-ft of torque to let you take command of the road.

On every trim, all three engines are paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission for a smooth and incredibly fun driving experience. This means that no matter which trim or other features you may want for your 2020 GMC Acadia, it will be a great ride that offers a uniquely joyful experience behind the wheel.

Exciting New Interior Features

The interior of the 2020 GMC Acadia has not been forgotten in the update and includes a host of features and details that take it to the next level. Most models have three rows of seating standard, giving you seating for up to seven passengers, depending on the configuration and trim you choose. The all-new AT4 trim, however, comes with seating for five people standard, with only two rows of seating, so you have more room in the rear for cargo.

Standard and available features inside the 2020 GMC Acadia are genuinely spectacular, including an 8-inch infotainment system with available navigation, an available Bose 8-speaker premium audio system, and HD Radio with an active noise cancellation interior. There’s an available 8-way power front passenger and driver seat, which can be heated and ventilated, as well as available heated rear seats and an available wireless charging pad. Numerous USB ports and other features make the 2020 Acadia very functional, plus there’s an available 8-inch reconfigurable driver information screen and even an available 6-inch color head-up display.

Fantastic Trims

There are five trims offered on the 2020 GMC Acadia, making it one of the most customizable GMC SUVs on the road. Let’s take a quick look at four of them (we’ll get to the fifth in a moment):

  • SL – The starting trim of the 2020 GMC Acadia features the 2.5L engine, a 7-passenger interior with three rows of seating, and a standard 6-speaker sound system. It has a 4-inch driver information screen, keyless open and start, and tri-zone automatic climate control.
  • SLE – If you choose the SLE trim, then you get the 2.5L engine standard, with the 3.6L V6 engine available. The SLE otherwise has many of the same features as the SL but also features available 8-way power seating and available heated seating.
  • SLT – This trim features the 2.0L Turbo engine standard, with the 3.6L V6 available, navigation, the Bose premium audio system, and an 8-way power driver seat.
  • Denali – The luxurious Denali trim continues to offer the finest features in GMC SUVs, with the 3.6L V6 engine standard, 20-inch wheels, and a hands-free power programmable liftgate. The Denali also features the wireless charging pad, 8-inch driver information display, and other fantastic technology all standard, plus an available head-up display.

The First-Ever Acadia AT4

Although every trim of the 2020 GMC Acadia is fantastic and offers excellent features and packages for you to choose from, there’s one that needs to be discussed on its own: the AT4. In previous years, other trims were available with an All-Terrain Package for boosted off-road performance. With the updated 2020 Acadia, however, this package has been replaced by the AT4 trim for fantastic all-terrain performance.

The 2020 GMC Acadia AT4 comes with the powerful 3.6L V6 engine standard, much like the Denali, but features GMC’s advanced twin-clutch AWD system that has been specially tuned for off-road performance and driving on uneven and challenging terrain. It offers enhanced stability in these conditions, along with standard AWD performance that helps with low-traction situations like rain and snow or mud. While you can choose standard AWD on some other trims for the Acadia, only the AT4 comes with the advanced twin-clutch AWD system.

The 2020 GMC Acadia AT4 also features a fully independent suspension for a smooth ride in rough conditions, including a MacPherson strut coil spring front suspension that can handle just about anything you throw at it. You get fantastic features inside, including Navigation, the 8-speaker Bose premium audio system, and an 8-way power driver seat. The AT4 features seating for up to five passengers, with only two rows of seats, so you have more space at the rear for all the equipment you need to take with you on a camping trip or other adventure.

We didn’t even have a chance to get into the fantastic safety features available on the 2020 GMC Acadia, including lane-keep assist with a lane departure warning, automatic emergency braking, and front pedestrian braking. You can also get a forward collision alert, front, and rear park assist, and even more great safety features, which are standard on some trims and available on others. Ultimately, there’s just so much great stuff on the 2020 Acadia; we really can’t do justice to it here.
